over in the "BORG4" tribe i'd seen this...
"We are the ravers. The people of PLUR. We are the fuzzy people who buy all the tickets so all you "artiste" types can get grants to make art to decorate our transcendental dance party. We are here to say thank you. And to encourage you to make more fabulous dance party decorations. We like 'em. and we want more. In fact, we demand more. If we don't get more, we are going to stop coming to the event to dance and go dance somewhere else."
so i said-
"best idea a "neo-raver" ever had... go away and don't ever come back, the true rave scene died in '98, you all are just hooligans with drug problems. haven't innovated a thing. and if you didn't know, a real raver builds it and brings it themselves... but a scene-whore like you you don't think much..."
then with flowers in hand they reply-
"Mr. Turner, I am curious, what have you brought to BM, or Borg2, or Borg4, or Borg9, or whatever lately? Besides a highly developed critical sense of course?"
so i dropped the atomic-punch with a mighty-
"i don't bring an inflated ego filled with rude demands and trite understanding of what really IS the burningman experience. ravers are users (of all sorts) and to post a remark like the one posted here is not only direspectful and retarted, it is also the point of fact the reason BM is better off without the "raver"...
i don't need to belong to any "borg" to have contributed to the community i have been involved with artists and projects there since 2000. i've helped feed and shelter these amazing people and have lended a hand to the cause even if i wasn't going that year.
i was what you'd call an "old school raver" back when the scene had respect for itself and others without running around too high to actually say, "peace, love, unity and respect". the ravers today don't care about anybody or anything, just in it for their good time and how long can you be left alone to engage in all the mindless scene-destruction you can... all the while showing the peace sign, pathetic... you just want to look cool and act like you are part of something when the only thing you ARE part of is the PROBLEM... i was in the scene from '94 to 2000 and have been in the trenches with the ravers (speaker junkie) and behind the scenes of some of the biggest parties but when the kids started coming in '96 it was dead fast, due to exactly what was written here... don't buy the tickets and go somewhere else to dance, BM isn't a dance-party, it WAS an art mecca where ideas of creation were shared and discovered. now it is a "holy grail" for those who want to know where can i find the best place to experience the worst in self indulgence... none of you care about THAT part of the playa, you just want "things" to dance around and trip on. fucking leaches..."
to which i added-
"the artists pour their souls out to make the place magical and you disrespect them with that post... you really need to check yourselves, but then all a raver these days is, is a "hooligan" without the balls to be a person let alone a citizen of BRC..."
their weak reply was barely able to say-
"Maybe some beads to gift, Mr. Turner? Glow sticks? No?"
so i tried to match the intensity with-
"have moved on to "fiber-optics" that way i'm really playa-down... no chemical to waste bro, i got clues to "gift" you if you care to stop wiggling like that..."
destroy all "RAVERS" (never seen a muppet act like that)

Re: GOOG ART, BAD RAVERS...
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 2:01 PM#1: I was throwing events in underground LA and outlying areas of southern california before they were called raves and the term PLUR didnt exist. You dont look familiar to me at all. And even so, who cares? Whats the point of chesting out your background?
#2: Regarding the statement on Borg4 mission: sarcasm is an art form. And you obviously suck at it.
Its such a lovely day out, I feel like taking a troll.....

I bet UK "ravers" from the early scene are cursing us American ravers as well - making sure all their friends and foes know who was in the scene first
Everyone wants to feel like they are better than someone else...
It's stupid. Why not say "all the old ravers are losers because they are still rambling on about the good old days." Instead you say that all the "neo-ravers" are posers because they were not in the original scene....
or that they are self-indulgent (which was true of just as many ravers in the mid nineties)
Stop livin' in the past fool!!!!
Anyway, I say if they want to spend $200 to come and dance and look at art then more power -
In a world where art appreciation/funding is decreasing rapidly it is stupid to berate people willing to fork over money to come look at some shit you bring out to the desert.
I mean why do you make public art at all -
It's silly to try to control the type of people who want to look at it. -

wow! this is like watergate...
and um, i wasn't giving a history lesson in my time is/was better than yours (even though it was) and i'm not trying to claim to be of the 1st in california either. i know that the scene started in the u.k. but the whole creative/artistic underground movement has become little more than ols news mtv fodder. in this world there are alot of things changing and not always for the better. i see BM as a near to last stand of people looking to have a haven where we can be free but lets not just make it a dogpile of disrespect for the great number of real artists who have helped define and shape the positive and beautiful playa experience. i mean, is NOTHING sacred anymore? does anyone care about any form of respect, descency and beauty? why all the hardcore abuse of each other like we were all good christians on sunday but can't wait to rip and tear each other every other day. i stand in defiance of the rot and over-indulgence that would collapse the reason to experience the playa... it isn't like everywhere else so don't treat it and the good souls who give unconditionaly as so. i am connected to the spirit and would invite those who would see to not shit on that that treats them to a feast once a year... -

but DESTROY ALL RAVERS..!!!
(yeah why not, even me)
BOOM!!!

Thu, March 3, 2005 - 8:36 PMno rules? i get to be a jerk? really?!
osssim! i wanna play.
turner, youve been nothing short of disrespectful and indescent in every message i have seen from you, all in this misguided attempt to act as a warrior on behalf of artists, many of whom youve mentioned - dont even fucking agree with you.
if youre not going to start communicating (ie LISTENING in addtition to talking) at least stop whining and get back to telling us all what is GOOD ART, BAD ART, NOT ART. -

i'm strapping jetpacks to my middle fingers and launching you the bird as hard as i can... yes i might have come down on the lame idea you had to be "miss popular" you sad wench but go be a princess anyway what do you care what i said unless it might be true and you would be exposed as a fake, fraud and a phoney... as long as you live in the city that had it's freedom infringed upon by terrorists don't attempt to tell me shit about what i said because i'm free to do so. you can go ahead and control your tribe and stuff but keep your "my way" attitude in check. go on with your shit if it's so bad but you did start the calling people out and shaking your ass like you were the up and coming shit. you and the other exploiters of people on the playa can agree all you want, good for ya... i said my piece where i said it and you are a little dictator weather or not you care to see it...
neptune bro, quit sucking on her tit, if you got somethin' about art to discuss then lets do it. i'm done with that old drama...
i'm here for that argument... -

Re: GOOG ART, BAD RAVERS...
Sun, March 6, 2005 - 12:31 AMTurner, Ive seen from some of your posts that you really have SOMETHING to say. Ive actually seen you pull your head out of your ass on a few occasions and pose a decent argument, albeit, only once or twice, which is sad considering how many times you post. Talk TO not AT and you may be heard.
But for now, you seem to me like one of the 1995 gackers cracking out in line for Does Your Momma Know on Sunset at 2:45am on a Friday, thinking your bad additude is gonna get you closer to the front of the line, not realizing that taking off the "Im cooler than you" attitude will get you further than you ever expected.
Off the pedestal, my friend. Im not gonna listen unless Im not aimed straight down your stuck up nose.
Although Im a big fan of the bird... nice work on the jetpacks. Very Gilligans Island.
